Results AND Resistance

We have seen the results of Republican policies … in the Bush crash of 2007 when jobs were lost, industries threatened, and people evicted from their homes.

We have seen the results of Republican policies … in the Reagan recession when corporate raiders dismantled companies, eliminated jobs, drove prices up, drove wages down, threw out union protections and contracts, and sent American jobs to foreign businesses.

We have seen the results of Republican policies … in today’s chaotic, bombastic presidency and today’s weak-kneed Congress, dismantling international agreements, breeding distrust of America’s word, and colluding with dictators who murder their own people.

What do we resist? We resist job losses. We resist wage stagnation. We resist corporate welfare. We resist corruption. We resist cruelty. We resist dictators.

We resist Republicans.

We have seen the results of Democratic policies … in the rescue of the auto industry by the Obama administration, in the recovery of jobs, in the expansion of health care, in the protection of our marginalized citizens, and in the welcome we extend to refugees fleeing tyrants.

We have seen the results of Democratic policies … in the passage of the Civil Rights Act and the Voting Rights Act to cut off institutional racism in Texas, Alabama, Georgia, and elsewhere, in the creation of Medicare to bring health care coverage to our seniors and elderly and save them from bankruptcy and poverty, in the creation of Medicaid to extend healthcare to families struggling in poverty, in the creation of a minimum wage so our working poor can work for a living and not just to scrape by.

We have seen the results of Democratic policies … in the creation and protection of the Social Security program that gives millions of our retired workers a retirement life in dignity, not poverty, in the right of workers to organize, in the minimum wage and workplace safety, in the creation of family leave, in the struggle for equal pay for equal work, and in defense of consumer protections.

What do Republicans resist? Republicans resist fair wages. Republicans resist dignified and safe working conditions. Republicans resist protections for our seniors and retirees. Republicans resist helping those who struggle for work, for housing, for food, for health care. Republicans resist education. Republicans resist wage-earners and laborers.

We resist Republicans.
